Web design is an art, I love it. When reading posts like these, it makes me go back in time and think about when I started. It is amazing how much everything has changed over the years. Great post, congrats.

Hi Erik,

It wasn't immediately apparent why I started keeping the Archive all those years ago but the need to keep it has persisted. I think it is in response to the massive overload of information we deal with each day, it's a filtering and prioritizing response to not lose the memories that are worth keeping. In large part, it also has to do with the fact that I saw my grandmother spend the last 15 years of her life alone and lonely - at 19 volumes, the Archive almost has the mass of someone who remembers your whole life and will always be there for you....

I always wondered why you created "the archive", I think i'm starting to understand now. I understand the need for things to have some sort of physical presence but sometimes I wonder if this is just a cultural/generational issue that will dissolve for the future but remain our problem until we are gone. In a way we all have been embracing the non-physical with digital music, movies, etc but for me it didn't really start to get serious until I started trying to live a paperless life. I bought a high speed scanner and started scanning everything in sight combined with all sorts of software for rapid and free form access to my data...however one look at my office and you will know I haven't succeeded yet, but i'm resolved to get there at some point...

Keep blogging on this topic, i'm really interested on where you take this and end up!

Hi Betty,

There was talk about open source and one guy was particularly adamant about it: Claudio Luis Vera from Studio:Module (studiomodule.com). I think we are going to be hearing a heck of a lot more about this as the Obama money and focus becomes increasingly widespread in the media. Google Health and MS HealthVault are already trying to do the electronic health record but adoption has been pretty low. Doesn't Google have enough info about us already?! ;)m

Health 2.0 is more of a perspective - a social networking, collaborative, transparent approach to health management. In essence, yes it is about using the web/tools to gather info to make health-related decisions, manage health records, and share healthcare experiences.

I think the industry as a whole is in the process of defining Health 2.0, with many players tackling different health aspects. Microsoft and Google are taking on health records and how they are managed, patientslikeme.com is a site to share experiences managing different diseases or doing various treatments. At the moment the space is just too new to be clearly defined beyond its catchy name.

HIPPA certainly has been an influencing factor in stimulating industry growth because it wanted so badly to be the benchmark legislation in mandating digital health records, but it has taken 8+ years so far to implement...Maybe loosening some of the requirements/restrictions will help with adoption.

Can you provide a one sentence description of health 2.0? Is it about using the web to manage your health?

Are any healthcare providers currently involved in defining Health 2.0 and are they restricted at all by the HIPAA regulations?

Thanks and nice job on the chart.
